1. If you were pitching this book idea to a publisher what would that pitch be? Include your logline.  

 

Upon Your Love tells the story of the Hill family. Its premise is ‘the trials of love’. The novel is a journey about different family members, detailing their challenges, the risks they take, as well as their losses and successes. Not only is Adrienne’s story (readers met her in the second book of the Heiresses in Love Series) a big part of the novel, this is a true family saga, so we come to learn facts about the old characters that we never knew.

 

The logline, or tagline, is:

She had to decide whether to succumb to desire or fight for love.

 

 

2. What was your favorite part about writing this story? Include any ritual or special place you write when you begin your day in the answer. 

 

My favorite part about writing this story was that even I was surprised by how it all turned out. Whittling away at the novel either in my bedroom while writing in a journal, or while composing on my computer, my characters always have a say. And I’d have it no other way.

 

3. Tell us about your main character, Adrienne Hill, in Upon Your Love.

 

Adrienne is truly a woman born out of her time. Living in the Victorian era, there are many constraints placed on women. Still, she manages to fight her way through the story, and expel the myths that women should not be doing what she does. She is a very strong character, and I am proud to have gotten to know her, as anyone would with a friend.

 

4. How much research did you do and what type? Include most interesting or most unusual.

 

Well, a lot goes into historical research. Accuracy is very important. Researching New Orleans in the 1890s was interesting. I loved learning about the historic homes, the current events of the time period and such.

 

The most unusual find, but quite helpful, was probably locating an 1885 Creole cookbook, which was just perfect when I knew I needed to learn about what sort of foods might be served at meals then. Every culinary delight was covered in that cookbook.

 

5. What was the most significant thing you learned writing this story? Your take away in your own personal growth as a writer or person.

 

I learned to better trust my own vision for a story, as well as the characters to always guide me in the right direction. Honoring my characters is far more important than cutting corners to meet personal deadlines.

 

6. How many book and series have you written?

 

With Upon Your Love releasing in a few days, I will have 25 published books, and four series published. Of course, I have five other series planned.

 

7. Tell us a bit about your journey as a writer?

 

Since I was nine years old, I pretty much always knew I wanted to write as a career. So, I put my heart and soul into achieving that goal. I read any book I could get my hands on, I researched the craft of writing, and I carefully planned how I would eventually get published. Of course, we can’t plan everything, can we? I majored in Creative Writing in college, and a few years after graduating, I set out to at last get a book published. From 2010 to 2012, I tried out the self-publishing craze, and in August of 2012, I received a book contract (for book one in the Heiresses in Love Series) from Solstice Publishing. I’ve been with them ever since.

 

8. Any advice for aspiring or new writers?

 

Patience and perseverance; those are two great qualities for a writer to have on the arduous journey ahead.
