Tsunami Crimes Interview

Chrys Fey Author of the Disaster Crimes Series

Welcome Chrys, Tell me about the journey from writing for yourself to being a published author and making it a career. What was the journey like and what did it entail?

I started writing when I was twelve. At seventeen, my dream of published my work became so strong that I could taste it. I’m not sure what publication would taste like, but I’m sure you know what I mean. If you’ve had an intense dream, you know that overpowering feeling of it being so close you could touch it.

That’s how it was for me.

Years later, after writing several books for a series, I tried even harder than before to build my publishing resume. I wrote poems and flash fiction, which I sent to magazines and ezines.

I published a couple of poems and a few flash fiction pieces, but I wanted more. A lot more. I continued to submit unsuccessfully. During this time, I was also querying for a book with no luck.

Desperate. Depressed. That was me.

I knew I needed to break into the publishing world another way. But how? I had nothing written except for the series that I couldn’t get representation for.

On Christmas Day 2012, I started writing a novella that I thought could be my golden ticket—Hurricane Crimes. After I finished it, I sent it to the first place on my list, The Wild Rose Press. And I got an acceptance from the senior editor of the Crimson Rose line for romantic-suspense. It was the answer to my dreams.

Since then, I’ve published two short stories, three novellas, and two novels with them. I hope to publish two more novels with them to finish what I started with the Disaster Crimes Series.

Once the Disaster Crimes Series is over, I have other ideas for books I want to submit elsewhere, and I am actively seeking an agent, so my journey has just begun.

Tsunami Crimes

Beth and Donovan have come a long way from Hurricane Sabrina and the San Francisco earthquake. Now they are approaching their wedding day and anxiously waiting to promise each other a lifetime of love. The journey down the aisle isn’t smooth, though, as they receive threats from the followers of the notorious criminal, Jackson Storm. They think they’ll be safe in Hawaii, but distance can’t stop these killers. Not even a tsunami can.
This monstrous wave is the most devastating disaster Beth has ever faced. It leaves her beaten, frightened. Is she a widow on her honeymoon? As she struggles to hold herself together and find Donovan, she’s kidnapped by Jackson’s men.
Fearing her dead, Donovan searches the rubble and shelters with no luck. The thought of her being swept out to sea is almost too much for him to bear, but the reality is much worse. She’s being used as bait to get him to fall into a deadly trap.
If they live through this disaster, they may never be the same again.
