What is speculative fiction?

Speculative fiction is a broad category of narrative fiction that includes elements, settings, and characters created out of imagination and speculation and not based on reality and everyday life. It encompasses the genres of science fiction, fantasy, science fantasy, horror, alternative history, and magic realism. JOIN US!

As you can see the word speculative covers a broad range of stories types.

New to writing short stories?  You can read my guest post on Christine Rains blog about  What makes a good flash fiction piece?

Or even better sign up for Holly Lisle’s Free 3 week Flash Fiction Course.

I really enjoy writing short stories and flash fiction, the challenge and how it helps improve my scene writing too. Great practice for exercising our writing muscles and honing our skills.

You still have 34 days to write your story as of today’s post, March 23, 2017. Write 1000 words or less, before the big event.   Check the rules and guidelines.  Don’t miss out on the fun and comradery!  Come play with us.

Since I’ve been asked I decided to include this info here.
