#IWSG When Fiction Merges With Reality

Microsoft is releasing Windows 10 on July 29th, 2015.  I am excited.  Anyone who has a legal copy of Windows 8, 8.1., 8 RT, and Windows 7 can upgrade to Windows 10 for a the first year free, after that you will have to purchase it.  It is packed full of new features and an easier user interface.  The one feature that really caught my attention is the Holo feature.  The first untethered Hololens is slated to be released too, now how cool is that?  I write fantasy and sci-fi, so I am so excited that holo is coming to the public.  A piece of Star Trek, so to speak, merged into the reality of our daily world.   Microsoft already has some companies that are working and partnering with them to help build and improve it.  You can see that video on their site right under the lead picture with a few details about that.  Here is the link to the HoloLens site–>Microsoft HoloLens.  https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-hololens/en-us

Check out these videos below I found on YouTube, including a live demonstration.

CNET TOP 5: BEST USES FOR HOLOLENS

My biggest fear now is that my imagination won’t be able to keep up with reality—Nah, but isn’t it wonderful to watch the imagination come to life and improve the world around us.  I can’t wait until I can go to the Holo Deck just like we go to the movies now, or even have a home Holo Theater.  OH,oh or until we can say, “Beam Me Up Scotty!”

I fear I’m distracted, lol, not just by Microsoft, but by life in general.  I have not written much in the month of May, so I need to get back to it.

  • Oops! I only just caught this post! I’m a Mac girl too, once you’ve made that switch you don’t change back!
But I’m totally with you on how the things we once read about are not only becoming real but overtaking that too.
I’ve read too many things on beaming up (or matter transmission) to want to try it before it’s been thoroughly tested though (think ‘The Fly’ or ‘The Prestige’, or even Mike TV’s incident in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) I still want to be me and not have random parts floating about in the ether!

  • Life is distracting. Hmm. I hope windows 10 is good. I’m on 8 now and still haven’t figured out where they hid everything. I’ll wait to hear how others like it before I make the switch.

  • Don’t you read Ray Bradbury? The Veldt woman, The Veldt. Being distracted by life is almost as annoying as writers block, when it happens to me I always start to feel depressed like my friends have stopped hanging out with me. Good luck from an IWSG blog hopping friend.

    • I do love technology, gadgets and stories involving the possibilities. I do read Ray Bradbury but only one so far, “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” I’ll have to check that one out.

Same to you my IWSG and Lake NaNo Buddy!!

  • I’m a Mac user, have been for 7 years. It’s a long story, but I’m betting Mac will come up with their version. Does sound fascinating, eh. I can’t wait until they can beam us up and we don’t have to fly 5 to 9 hours to get to our destination.

That sounds cool! Good luck with getting back to work 😉

  • Hi, Thanks for letting me know about the new Holo feature. I hadn’t heard of it.

    • Your welcome, I can’t wait to see what its like say in a couple of years. The fact it is available to the world in general and not special niches is so awesome. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Wow that’s pretty cool! Man technology just keeps going 🙂

    • Yes it does. I am so glad that I am around to see it. Never expected to see it. My mom and day would be shocked now to see TV fantasy is now a part of real life in many ways that did not exist, when they were alive.

  • I hadn’t heard of that. How cool.

  • Oooh, I didn’t know about it, I just looked it up and it looks so cool!! I have to confess though that I’m a Mac girl… 😛

    Sending you lots of hugs!!!

    • LOL, its okay. I have always admired Steve Jobs, even if I did think his stuff too expensive, but I have always been a Windows girl, especially Word and now OneNote.

      HUGS

  • It sounds like you are really excited this month, which is always good. I hope Windows 10 will be all you wished for and more.

    • Well, I am excited for the month, since I just read about this stuff. It felt good to get that excited about something again. Windows 10 will be an improvement over 8, that was the worst set up ever compared to past versions. However, they are incorporating some of that older setup into 10, so I am sure I will love it.

  • I think keeping up with technology is awe-inspiring. You’ll feed imagination and it will fly.

Here’s my link if you’d like to drop by 🙂

    • Yeah, I found this pretty inspiring. I never thought I’d actually see it in my lifetime. How awesome is that? Now I believe I may see even more. My mom and dad would not recognise today with all the change—TV fantasy stuff into reality, lol.
