IWSG JUNE 7TH QUESTION: Did you ever say “I quit”? If so, what happened to make you come back to writing?
Yes. No. Maybe? Sometimes? All the time? It is part of the process, isn’t it? You just have to push through all the noise. It is when we reach the deepest that magic happens. It is those moments that keep me writing.
The best thing about being a writer is you don’t have to make excuses for pretending. It’s part of the job. Where do all the stories come from? I believe it is the human condition that makes us all heroes and villains, saints or monsters. Life is the mythology of living that creates the stories of our lives and imaginations. ~Juneta
Really just can’t help myself and who would I talk to daily?
The one place where you can control the world! Bah, ha, ha, ha…
Books have always been friends, companions, teachers and a source of solace and comfort. I’m never alone when I am with my book, especially if I am writing the story.
JUNE IWSG Author Spotlight is on 4 Author’s this month.
The Snowman by Yolanda Renee Detective Quaid Mysteries Prequel
So true! I have no idea where I’d be without writing. It keeps me moderately sane.
The quotes are funny, encouraging and oh so true! I’ll add one: “You know you are a writer when you are constantly ‘writing’ in your head.” Which, for me, boils down to coming up with perfect sentences for your current book chapter and great ideas for blogs, all finished and polished in your head. But, when the time and opportunity come to write all these masterpieces down, they have – somehow – disappeared and I am left with less perfect alternatives!
Love the quotes, especially the one about the first draft being a story you tell yourself. That’s so true.
I love that Terry Pratchett quote. He was known to constantly go back and tweak and revise and massage his stories from the early drafts. Some writers, when they get good, just hammer out their manuscript, but with him it was a living, evolving thing until it went to press.
“Books have always been friends, companions, teachers and a source of solace and comfort”! I was a painfully quiet and introverted child, so this one really resonates! Love it!
“The first draft is just telling yourself the story”, that is so freeing
I love what you wrote here: “It is when we reach the deepest that magic happens”
So very true!
The when you cannot one I really liked. Can’t quit indeed, have to keep on keeping on.
We are all heroes and villains in life.
Thank you very much for featuring Hero Lost in your post.
As always, such great insight and quote pictures, Juneta. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with your followers. I grow each time I visit your blog.
You’ve got all the motivational quotes right here. And of course, all the emotions and doubts and steps forward and steps back. But writers write even when we get down we come back to it. No such thing as quitting for a writer, I think.
Love the quotes!
Great images! I love the “when you cannot…” one especially, and I’d like to add, “When you cannot cope, write.” 🙂
I love the way you’ve told the writing story in pictures. Love the books you’ve foregrounded. Love quotes!!
Lovely post filled with inspiration! I hope to be as inspiring some day!
Great post. Loved all your quotes and inspiration. I also have conversations with fictional characters. 😀
Oh how I love this! The Terry Pratchett quote is taped above my writing space. Og Mandino – an old “friend” who helped me so many years ago. When I can’t write, reading has always been my salvation. And where do the stories “come from”? My god, the stories suffocate me in their abundance. I cannot write fast enough to capture them all.
I love this whole post! I was smiling the whole time I read it. Love all the quotes and your comment about when the magic happens. There’s nothing quite like that magic and it makes me forget all the frustrating times ever even happened.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Cool post. I like the images and quotes. I too read when my writing is strained a bit. There are highs and lows to the writing process and we all deal with them in different ways.
Great book spotlights.
Books have always been my friends, too. Never give up, never surrender.
Never give up, never surrender.
Love your quotes. LOVE THEM!
Thank you.
“Books have always been friends, companions, teachers and a source of solace and comfort. I’m never alone when I am with my book, especially if I am writing the story.” Love that, Juneta! It captures exactly why I love books. I could let go with a lot of things in my life, but I think I’d die if I had to give up books! Happy writing in June!
Yup, thank you and you too. Happy Writing.
Yes! See, that’s my problem. I’d rather live in my head most the time. LOL. Here’s to writing and the joy it brings, eh?
to the JOY!
Love all those images! When I can’t write, I read too. 🙂
Thank you.
You’re right. I definitely do think it’s part of the process.
Yeah, me too. Enjoyed your post today and the pics.
Love this – “It is when we reach the deepest that magic happens. It is those moments that keep me writing.” Yes! 🙂
Yup! LOL
I know I’m a writer because I love me a good outline.
I am a panster learning to outline. *rolls eyes* I am getting better at it.
Awesome post, Juneta. Loved the Og Mandino one. I used one of his quotes on my other blog, lifepostbrainhemorrhage.wordpress.com. I love that you’re a fellow retired EMT. 🙂 Thanks for all the motivation you gave me today. Hugs. Eva
You are welcome. Og has a lot of good ones. Liked your other blog. left a comment.
Not making excuses for pretending is an excellent thing. I get so many strange looks when I talk about my stories. It’s wonderful. 🙂
Thank you.
I love all these quotes! Especially the empty chair because yes, I do talk to myself to visualize my characters to the point I hear their voices…hmmm lol
Thank you a few of my favorite. I like to do interviews with my characters.
I know all of those authors! Thanks for including Hero Lost.
I like that saying about write-write-write-read.
You are welcome. Its a great anthology.
What a delightful collection of quotes! I want to ‘borrow’ every one of them.
Go right ahead. That is what meme quotes are for–sharing! hugs.
