Marshall J. Moore
Marshall J. Moore is a writer, filmmaker, and martial artist who was born and raised on a tiny tropical island in the remote Pacific. He has traveled to over twenty countries, has sold a thousand dollars’ worth of teapots to Jackie Chan, and was once tracked down by a bounty hunter for owing $300 in overdue library fines. He lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Megan and their two cats, Delilah and Furiosa.

This author has an interesting story to tell us. If you read his bio you saw that he mentioned Jackie Chan. Here is that tale. If you look a little closer at the bio photo you might recognize the person standing beside Marshall.
It’s a less exciting story than my little blurb makes it sound; I wasn’t his direct supplier or anything nearly as ridiculous. I did the starving actor thing in Los Angeles fresh out of college and worked at a Teavana to pay rent. I think the chain is closed now, but it was a high-end tea retailer.
The mall the store was in was near the airport, so we were used to large groups of East Asian shopppers coming in to browse the merchandise. I was showing a large group of Chinese gentlemen one of our products when I realized I *recognized* the one closest to me.
My heart skipped several beats, my mouth forgot what it was saying, and I nearly dropped the teapot.
*Holycrapthatsjackiechan*
I kept going with the memorized sales pitch, but Jackie must have seen the lightbulb over my head, because he nodded along enthusiastically and gave me the biggest grin. I hadn’t recognized him at first because he was purposefully dressed down to avoid paparazzi: purple tracksuit and thick-framed fake glasses. He had been surrounded by his entourage and they had all been speaking Mandarin to each other, so it wasn’t until that heart-skipping moment that I realized who I was talking to.
I continued the sales pitch as normal. He never spoke to me directly, just chatted to his friends in Mandarin, but he was friendly and polite regardless. He really is as physical in real life as he is onscreen; he was constantly picking teapots up, sniffing the tea samples, and so on. I was struck by how tactile he was: a man completely at ease interacting with his physical environment.
All told he bought a little over a thousand dollars’ worth of products, mostly cast iron teapots to give to friends and family in Hong Kong as gifts. Since it was toward closing and he and his entourage were the only customers, I and my manager (who was doing an even worse job keeping his cool than I was) politely asked to take pictures with him.
I’m not easily starstruck; I’ve worked with a few celebrities and most are fairly normal. But Jackie’s a legend, and that encounter was something special.
