What are the three books that influenced you as a writer? Tell us about your life when you read them.
I could be facetious and say The Bible, but I’ve actually read that thing and it’s full of violence and kinky sex. If you think I’m lying, you’ve never actually read the Bible.
The three books that truly affected me are “The Martian Chronicles” by Ray Bradbury which I read in the 6th grade. It showed me that good writing could tell a story and be poetic as well.
“The Last Temptation of Christ,” by Nikos Katzantzakis, which I read when 17. It is an amazing book. I’ve never seen the film (nor the responsive film by Mel Gibson) because it’s impossible to capture the pure beauty of that book on film.
“The Hound of the Baskervilles,” by Arthur Conan Doyle got me hooked on mysteries. It is an elegantly written and plotted book.
If you ever want to write mysteries it is required reading, as is “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie.
