Inspired by Life by J.Q. Rose
Thank you, Juneta, for hosting me today. I’m excited to be here with you and your readers.
My just-released mystery, Terror on Sunshine Boulevard, is a project straight from my heart. My dear husband, Gardener Ted, and I live in a senior community in Florida during the winter making us “snowbirds.”
In our many years of traveling, we have met so many wonderful people during our Florida visits and as residents in the senior community. Needless to say we have also encountered some real characters. My newly released paranormal mystery is filled with characters and situations I have encountered in real life as a snowbird.
I include the senior lifestyle in the story–finding bargains at flea markets and making sure to get reduced dining prices with the early bird specials. The social side of senior living is also in the book. I must caution though, some of the events are purely fiction.
I loved writing the main characters, Jim and Gloria Hart, snowbirds from Michigan. Their characters are based on similarities between Jim and Gloria and my husband and me. They are retired after working as business owners for many years. They have enjoyed a long marriage so that they can know each other’s thoughts most of the time. (Like us, they are still working on communication even after all these years.) Their grown children with kids of their own are up North, so Jim and Gloria can enjoy a wonderful winter season of no responsibilities.
But that’s about the end of our similarities. We have never experienced friends dying in such mysterious ways and Gardener Ted is no first responder, for sure.
I portrayed seniors in Terror on Sunshine Boulevard as vibrant, intelligent, and caring people with much to give to society. Just because someone retires, it doesn’t mean life is over. Actually, it’s just the beginning of a new chapter in life.
I hope readers will enjoy a peek inside senior living as it is in the 21st century with all the quirks and humor in the story. I have added a mystery to entertain and keep them wondering “who-dun-it.”

BLURB: Rescuing a naked woman lying in a geranium bed or investigating mysterious murders are not the usual calls for first responder Jim Hart. He expects slip and fall accidents or low blood pressure emergencies in his retirement community of Citrus Ridge Senior Community and Golf Resort. The ghastly crime scenes turn the winter time fun into a terrifying season of death and mystery when the authorities cannot track down the predator responsible.
Jim and his wife Gloria could escape the horror and grief by returning to their northern home, but concern for their friends and residents keep them in Florida. With the entire community in a dither over the deaths, the Harts participate in the normal winter activities of golfing, dancing, and pool parties with their friends to distract them from the sadness and loss.
Can Jim and Gloria work with the authorities to discover who or what is killing the seniors on Sunshine Boulevard and stop the increasing body count?
