Static Book 2 in the Luminaries series, by Fantasy Suspense Author S. K. Anthony
Today we are traveling to New York, New York to welcome S. K. Anthony to my Author Spotlight. She is releasing her second book in her Fantasy Suspense series The Luminaries. I first met Katherine through Insecure Writer’s Support Group back in 2014. We are also in a IWSG critique group together. She has been a joy to get to know, so lets start the interview.
1-You just had a cover reveal September 3, 2015 for your second book in your series The Luminaries, STATIC, who are the Luminaries?
-They are agents who work for the government, much like the FBI and CIA. Except, well, they have supernatural powers, and they’re secret from the rest of the world. While in womb, their pregnant mothers underwent forced experiments that genetically altered their DNAs, causing them to develop special abilities.
2-Where did you get this idea for your series premise?
– About 5 years ago, I remember having the word Luminary coming to my mind and thinking, “this sounds cool”, who would a Luminary be? Then I also liked the idea of having a secret organization with super powers and a heroine who was a bad ass but broken inside, and Kinetic was born. That of course, then led to Static 😉
3-Your first book in the series is KINETIC available at Amazon, the character in your second book first made his appearance in that one, can you tell us about the connection?
– We met Kevin when he was seventeen and thrown into the Luminaries world to help protect and teleport Annie (Kinetic’s MC) out of harms way if necessary. He’s Annie’s brother-in-law, and one of fans most loved characters, so now, five years later . . . he needed to be exploited in Static lol.
4-How many books do you have planned for your series?
– Four for now. They’re mostly stand-alone novels, except for Static and the next book Chaotic (working title) since they sort of go hand-in-hand. Then I have one more with a character who I’ll introduce in the next book, and that’s all I have planned. However, I can add more books in that world at any time so who knows what will happen in a couple years.
5-Do you have a ritual, or special place you write?
-Oh boy, where do I start with this one? First of all, I need kids asleep and then I work through the night. Toddler twins aren’t very understanding of “mommy has a book to write.” And this of course brings me to coffee.
Coffee is a must when I start working, a few hours later I might switch to wine. But it must be white wine. I love red, but to write: white. I usually work in my kitchen, so when writing I like to face the window, but . . . when revising I have to face the opposite wall. Why? I don’t know.
6-Do you prefer laptop or desktop, when writing?
-I invested in my MacBook Pro a couple years back, so laptop all the way. My regular desktop just won’t cut it at this point. I’ve been spoiled!
7-You are a mother to twins, how has this affected your writing life?
-See “writing rituals” LOL. It has affected my sleep more than anything. I love to write and need to do it, and the only time with toddler twins is when they go to bed. They just started kindergarten though so things might change. I might even get to finish my next book in a year instead of two years . . . so the answer is time. They take up all my time. Rightfully so, though 😉
8-What type of books do you read?
-Oooh, I read almost anything! From Dark Fiction to YA, from Sci-fi to Romance, from MG to how-tos. I just need to care about the characters or topic, that’s all.
9-What one thing about this second book do you love most?
-The loyalty and friendship. And I can’t say more
10-What type of research did you do for your series, before you started writing it?
-Hmm I more a “wing it and research as I go” author lol. When it was time, I did look into astral plane, electromagnetic spectrums, mental health issues, and . . . umm the FBI’s infrastructure. I’m certain they’re keeping an eye on me at this point o_O.
11-Any last words for our readers, anything you want them to know that we have not mentioned?
-Ooh, the pressure! Umm, umm, I just hope they enjoy reading Static if they happen to pick it up . . . AND good luck with the giveaway! Be sure to enter!
Thank you, Juneta!!!!
Kevin Pierce is a teleporter, a ladies’ man, and a loyal friend . . . or so he thought.
As a genetically altered Luminary, he helps the government bring down some of the most dangerous criminals. Not very challenging if you have his special abilities. But when a group of rebel Luminaries attacks his Organization the fight for survival begins.
One shattering event after another tests the depth of his relationships, his sanity, and his powers. Emotionally torn, Kevin must choose carefully where his loyalty lies. In the middle of all the unexpected chaos he gets the biggest shock of his life when he’s faced by a betrayal he never saw coming. Angry, injured, and ready to even the score, Kevin goes Static . . .

Being strong is one thing. Being an unlimited source of power is quite another.
Genetically altered by the Organization, Annie Fox takes down criminals CIA-style with her luminary strength. With nothing to mend but her broken heart, she is relentlessly pursued by her boss Derek Lake. Just when Annie is about to give him a chance, her ex-husband unexpectedly comes out of hiding.
A wanted man, Nick Logan is a cold-hearted murderer who is considered enemy number one, and orders are clear: kill on contact. He is more powerful than ever and threatens the lives of those she holds most dear. His plan? Get his hands on Annie and use her Kinetic energy to destroy them all. When Annie finds herself with an opportunity to end him, she pauses, horrified by the scars covering the face she once loved. A split second that will cost her everything…
S. K. Anthony is a writer, a reader and a make-stuff-up-er who lives in New York with her husband and toddler twins. She is a wine connoisseur, which just really means she knows she loves it, and a caffeine addict. When she isn’t busy with her family, she finds herself being transported into the world of imagination. Well, either that or running away from spiders…she is convinced they are out to get her!
